TNO: Innovation for life
A safer, healthier, and more sustainable life. That's what we are all about. As an independent research organisation, we are the driving force behind innovation. We make knowledge serve the common good.
About TNO Repository
The TNO Repository contains scientific reports and publications that can be shared with people outside of TNO where the publisher allows this.
TNO’s mission is to generate innovative solutions with demonstrable impact to achieve a safe, healthy, sustainable, and digital society and boost the earning power of the Netherlands. We aim to achieve this by performing two core tasks (roles). The first is to support the Dutch government in carrying out statutory government tasks in the public interest. TNO’s second core task is to strengthen the earning power of the Dutch economy and increase employment.
TNO is an independent research organisation that employs some 3,000 specialists. We believe in the joint creation of economic and social value. Our strategy is a reflection of the trends we observe in society and technology. We focus on transitions or changes in five social themes:
- Sustainability: At TNO we aim for a sustainable society. A society that can withstand the changing climate and contribute to a circular economy. A society with a sustainable living environment, sustainable energy and a sustainable industry.
- Healthy: Improving the health of citizens physically and mentally. That is our ambition. This requires innovation and a new perspective on health and healthcare. Our living environment plays an important role. Because healthier living environments prevent almost a quarter of global diseases.
- Safe: Protecting what is dear to us and ensuring people can live together in freedom and safety. That's what we stand for. Therefore we develop strategic knowledge, technology and capabilities.
- Digital: The Netherlands as a digital frontrunner in Europe. That is what TNO wants to contribute to. Because digital technology supports, and accelerates all major innovation challenges. In addition, digitisation has a far-reaching effect on society as a whole.
