How to search

Increase your search efficiency by using operators, truncation, and phrase matching.

Default search settings

By default free text searches are conducted using the 'AND' operator within the title and summary. When the search term 'nursing therapy' is used, the search will be for documents containing both the words 'nursing' and 'therapy'.

Expand your search results

By using the ‘OR’ operator in the free text search field you can increase your search results. When the search term 'nursing OR therapy' is used, the search will include publications containing one of the words 'nursing' or 'therapy'.

When you search for part of a word, you will get more search results. For instance, searches on 'nurs', the results will include 'nurse' as well as 'nursing', 'nursing ward', and so on. To truncate from the left you can start with a question mark at the beginning of the word. For example, when '?therapy' is used, results can be 'nursing therapy’, ‘psychotherapy’, and ‘experimental therapy’.

Search for all possible publications by using the * wildcard operator.

Limit your search results

Searches enclosed in quotation marks will look for the exact phrase in the specified sequence. For instance, the search term "antinutritional factors" will look for publications where the provided words appear in that order and spelling.

You can use the filter options in the left column of the search results page to limit the results by keyword, document type, an author or publication year.

Export your search results

You can export up to 2,500 search results as a CSV file (comma or semicolon separated). The file contains the title, authors, source and year of all publications that match your search criteria and can be used for easy citing. Should you require a larger file, please contact TNO RIS.
