Searching for evidence: knowledge and search strategies used by forensic scientists
bookPart
The Forensic Science Laboratory of The Netherlands is suffering from a growing backlog due to an increasing number of cases, which results in long delivery times of research reports within a number of departments. The project, "Strategies for Searching Trace Evidence," was started by the Forensic Science Laboratory in order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of search strategies, with the ultimate aim of achieving shorter delivery times. The Forensic Science Laboratory has requested the assistance of TNO Human Factors in carrying out the Search Strategies project. TNO's contribution consisted of analyzing and, where necessary, formalizing and optimizing the search strategies used by experienced analysts.
