Online Test Generation for Transition and Scenario Coverage in an Industrial Setting
conference paper
Component Modeling & Analysis (ComMA), as implemented in the open-source CommaSuite tool, is used by Philips, for interface modeling, and lately also for Model-Based Testing. In industrial practice, achieving sufficient transition and scenario coverage with a random test strategy can be time-consuming..We address this limitation, by integrating the state-of-the-art Joker test strategy, which steers a test towards a target, even in the presence of system outputs that may bring it further away from the target. We apply it on a large industrial Philips case study, as well as an example case included in the CommaSuite tool. In the most challenging experiment with the Philips case, the Joker strategy uses 38% less time and 54% fewer steps than random testing. This paper presents our implementation, experimental results, and lessons learned.
