Levels of quality of service: recommendations

Based on a literature study and on a series of experiments conducted within TROPIC WP8, recom-mendations are provided concerning the following levels of quality of service aspects of Variable Message Signs (VMS):
· Selection of the type of information to be displayed (queue length, travel time, delay time)
· Placement of VMS (route guidance: placement with respect to decision point; section control: distance between VMS) · Combining several types of signals on one VMS (related signals, non-related signals)
· Changes in time and place.
