De rol van de mens op de scheepsbrug van de toekomst [The human role on the future ship bridge]

article
The search for more efficient and safe ship operation has increased over the last decade. Extending automatic control cannot only reduce operational costs, but also provides the opportunity to modify the ship's bridge into an operational centre from which both navigational and platform functions can be fulfilled. As a result, the human task will change from manual control over one single function to the supervision of several functions simultaneously. In designing an integrated ship control centre, human factors should be taken into account. Human error, and consequently probability of accidents, may be reduced by adequate training and interface design.
