Many investigators base the inaximum allowable energy expenditure during an 8 or I hour work-day on an assumed. caloric intake, reserving a certain amount of calories for off-time (Lehmann lg62). According to this approach, 2000 or 2200 kcal are assumed to be available for the working period. The mean value of energy expend.iture for 500 min of work is thus roughly 4.5 kcal/min.
