Analysis of dwelling structures with the aid of a computer - In designing a house, or a black of houses, two significant types of divisions are distinguished: the number of individual dwellings and their subdivisions. The positions in each of the two types will be subject to considerations relative to, for example, daylight. The S.A.R. (Stichting Architecten Research, a research foundation of architects) has evolved rules for designing dwellings, by means of which various divisions can be investigated systematically. This provides an insight into the possibilities of a particular design and the restrictions with a view to standardizing prefabricated building units. This investigation involves much routine work, the very job for a computer. In this context, a computer programme was drawn up by the Statistics Department TNO for the S.A.R., at the request of the Institute TNO for Building Materials and Building Structures.
