X-ray and extended UV spectrometer designs based on off-plane grating mountings

A spectrometer design is presented, with which it is possible to cover the entire wavelength range of GRIST by one focal plane instrument. The design is based on an off-plane grating mounting, whose object and spectral images are located out of the plane perpendicular to the grooves in the mounting. The absolute diffraction-efficiency of a grating in an off-plane mounting may exceed that in a classical in-plane mounting by a factor of more than ten.
