Siting of windturbines near buildings and obstacles, progress report

conference paper
Aim of the project is the development of a European Handbook with guidelines and calculation methods for Optimal Siting of Wind Turbines near Buildings and Obstacles like trees and hedges. To this end an eva luation of previous work on this topic has been made while wind tunnel and full scale studies on the wake structure of a building and a row of trees are under way in order to validate the Handbook procedure. Participants in the project are the "Danish Maritime Institute DMI" in Lyngby and the "Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment CSTB" in Nantes, France. DMI will perform a full scale study at a wind turbine site with obstacles and will compare these results with wind tunnel measurements and with results achieved by methods for prediction of energy production. CSTB will perform systematic measurements of the wake structure on a full scale row of trees at heights and distances from this obstacle that are of interest for wind turbines. MT-TNO will develop the technical contents of the Handbook and provide the printing.
