Attuning the task design to 'envisioned' high-demand situations
bookPart
During critical incidents in process control task demands can increase substantially for the operators. In practice, the task requirements for managing such critical situations are not always met so that sub-optimal task performances appear, possibly resulting in serious calamities. The cognitive and functional (COLFUN) framework offers a tool for a coherent analysis of tasks and the corresponding cognitive load of the operators. At the same time it supports the identification of possible solutions. Furthermore, the framework will be exemplified with an analysis of the future control room of the Westerschelde motor-traffic tunnel.
