The major histocompatibility system of subhuman primate species
bookPart
The major histocompatibility system (MHS) has been elaborately studied in only two subhuman primate species: the rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatto) and, to a much lesser extent, the chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes). Current information on the MHS of those two species will be reviewed rather extensively. The knowledge of tissue antigens of other primate species (except man, of course) is still rudimentary and does not yet warrant an elaborate discussion. Table 2.1 provides some information regarding the taxonomic rank of the various primates to be discussed. © 1977 Springer
