Catecholamine excretion of normal male adolescents during various periods of the day cycle
article
The excretion of methyladrenalin, methylnoradrenalin and vanillylmandelic acid was determined in the urine of 51 male adolescents. No restrictions were imposed upon the boys as far as their normal activities were concerned. Normal values for the excretion variables as well as correlations between the variables are presented and discussed. Catecholamine excretions appeared to be not very age dependent or weight dependent. The relationship between methyladrenalin and methylnoradrenalin is probably a stronger one than between adrenalin and noradrenalin. It is very likely that part of the vanillylmandelic acid is formed by means of a nonfunctional diffusion of catecholamines from the storing granules and not via methyladrenalin or methylnoradrenalin. The catecholamine excretions considered as a personal characteristic during a normal day appear to be significantly related to psychologically determined aggression variables.
