Simulations of CO2 transport and storage networks representative of the Dutch North Sea
conference paper
In the Dutch sector of the North Sea there are plans to create a network of pipelines and wells to inject CO2 into depleted gas fields and, later, also into aquifers. A simulation tool was developed in which the pressures, temperatures and flow rates can be simulated in these injection networks in scenarios covering many years of injection. The simulations show potential problems occurring during the injection of CO2, such as low temperatures occurring at the wellhead when injecting cold CO2 into low pressure reservoirs and high required compressor discharge pressure due to high reservoir pressures in a few wells. The tool allows the simulation of different scenarios that can solve these problems. Therefore this model can help during planning and operation of CO2 injection networks.
