The kinetic resolution of enantiomers by means of enzymatic reactions
article
For conversions involving a single enzyme, and under certain limiting conditions, the process of kinetic resolution can be described with five variables, which can be determined experimentally. Their quantitative relations have been derived. If any three of these variables are known the other two can be calculated. The relations, which are valid for solutions, as well as for emulsions, provided that efficient mixing continuously occurs, can be very helpful in answering several practical questions. Some calculated examples are given. Kinetic resolution with a single enzyme, combination of successive enzymatic reactionsteps, behaviour of mixtures of enzymes, and influence of reaction conditions on enantioselectivity are discussed. Some general conclusions have been drawn.
