De werking van coladranken die coffeïne bevatten

article
1. To some cola drinks caffeine is added in concentrations varying from 20 to 75 mg/bottle of about 200 mls, whilst other such lemonades lack caffeine altogether. This highly unwanted situation must be cleared by adequate labeling of this type of beverages.
2. Since caffeine is neither an essential constituent of a lemonade nor a nutrient, the toxicology of its addition must be considered in the long range feeding experiments, tentatively proposed by the U.S.A. Food & Drug Adminisitation.
3. Such experiments have not yet been carried out, but it has been shown that an unfavourable gastric response may be expected.
As long as no proof is at hand that caffeine stands the F & DA test, children and stomach patients (as well as all those who are not allowed to take caffeine) should be dissuaded from taking cola beverages containing caffeine.
4. A further potential risk, involved in the consumption of some cola beverages, is dental erosion due to the presence of phosphoric acid at the very low pH of about 2.5.
