The effects of 131I and 125I on mouse and rat thyroid
article
The hypothesis that 125I exerts an extra nuclear effect on the thyroid was studied experimentally in rodents. Doses of 125I and 131I, producing a similar effect on the structure of the thyroid gland, on the thyroxine-level in the serum, and on the capacity of the thyroid to concentrate radioactive iodine, were compared. No specific effect of the 125I on hormonal levels was observed. The hypothesis of an extra nuclear effect was therefore not confirmed. © 1972 Informa UK Ltd All rights reserved: reproduction in whole or part not permitted.
