A method for extracorporeal irradiation of the blood in the rat

article
A technique for extracorporeal irradiation of the blood (ECIB) in the rat is described. This comprises the cannulation of the abdominal aorta, the ECIB procedure per se, the radiation equipment including efficient shielding, and the dosimetry. It was concluded that repeated sessions of ECIB in rats is a technical feasibility, which makes it possible to systematically study its effect on transplantable, reproducibly growing leukemias in this easily manageable animal species.
