Technology foresight is often used to look into possible longer-time future developments to support policy and decision-making processes (Da Costa et al., 2008). Artificial intelligence (AI) is appearing as an opportunity for foresight studies to explore new horizons, enrich understanding of the increasingly complex and fast-evolving STI developments and support the development of policies and strategies. As such, the continuous input of new, big data as well as new AI-driven methods can make foresight more “real-time”, timely and responsive than before: new perspectives for data-supported foresight are appearing (Geurts et al., 2022).
