Enhancing food security through cricket farming and bread production – Phase 1
report
The phase 1 feasibility study aimed to assess the potential for scaling up cricket production in Nigeria for use in nutrient-enriched bread as a sustainable, locally produced protein source. The problem addressed is twofold: tackling protein-energy malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies, and creating income-generating opportunities, through low-cost, climate-adapted cricket farming. The study’s objectives were to evaluate technical feasibility, identify optimal farming conditions, and determine the market potential and consumer acceptance of cricket-enriched bread.
