Microfault-like structures in unconsolidated Upper Quaternary sediments from the Madeira Abyssal Plain (eastern North Atlantic)

article
The occurrence of faults with an average vertical throw of several meters has been reported earlier for sediments from the Madeira and Nares abyssal plains. In this report we discuss the observation of microfault-like structures in unconsolidated Upper Quaternary sediments from the Madeira Abyssal Plain; these microstructures have a throw of 2-4 mm. The origin of these microfault-like structures is attributed to differential compaction and dewatering. © 1988.
