De TNO-dienst voor periodieke stralingsdosis controle [Survey of radiation workers by the Radiological Service Unit TNO, The Netherlands]
article
For the past 16 years the occupational exposure of most of the radiological workers in The Netherlands has been checked by the Radiologic Service Unit, T.N.O. The Service is responsible for the fortnightly dosimetry of more than 9,000 radiological workers in The Netherlands and other countries, such as Surinam, Ethiopia, Venezuela, and Liberia. Results of over 2,000,000 measurements have shown that the present occupational load is substantially lower than those found in the past. On the average, a dosage is demonstrable for about 15% of all radiological workers in every measurement period, and half of them reach a score of over 20 mR. Approximately 2% showed levels of over 50 mR every fortnight, and only 0.5% showed levels exceeding 100 mR. Only in exceptional cases were doses of more than 5 R recorded. The daily laboratory practice is described and attention is given to the development and future application of thermoluminescent dosimetry (TLD) in personnel monitoring.
