Het COPIH project 1971-1974: II selectie van de studie-populatie; burgerlijke staat, beroep en fysieke activiteit [The COPIH project 1971-1974. II. Selection of the study population, marital state, type of work and physical activity]

article
During the period 1971 through 1975 a total of 24,532 men were examined for risk factors for ischaemic heart disease according to the COPIH protocol by ten occupational health services. Out of this total 21,578 men aged 35-64 years were selected as the study population. Because of age outside the limits set 946 men were rejected. A further 1593 men were not accepted into the study population because of incompleteness of measurements. Also excluded were 415 men who were considered not be of the 'Western European type'. Two occupational health services examined roughly one half of the study population while two others contributed but little. Frequency distributions were presented for the study population by age, year of examination, marital state, type of work and physical activity. For these characteristics the differences between age-groups were insignificant. Only with respect to year of examination was a difference present. Older people were examined first resulting in a different age structure of the population examined each year. This does not appear to have influenced measurements appreciably.
