Non Destructive Detection of Iron-Gall Inks by Means of Multispectral Imaging - Part 2: Application on Original Objects Affected with Iron-Gall-Ink Corrosion
article
The FCIR method for analysing iron gallotannate ink has been applied to some practical cases, i.e. for identifying the chemical quality of script and drawing on historical documents which to the naked eye appear indiscriminately black, in the same way as paper that is heavily decayed by ink corrosion. Using FCIR those consisting of iron gallotannate ink appear as red while the corroded paper remains black, thus allowing us to see the amount of damage.
