The chapter aims at the improvement of the risk assessment methodology for health, safety and environment of CO2 storage in various geological media. The method could be used also in analyzing the effectiveness of underground CO2 storage as a CO2 emission reduction option. A methodology for long-term safety assessment of underground CO2 storage exists, which accounts for comprehensiveness and physical soundness particularly needed in long-term assessments. Turning an assessment on the basis of this methodology into a success not only relies on the technical merits of the method but also on the quality of the input and test data. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd.
