The system for assessing impact sound transmission according to the standard NEN 1070-1962 (comparable with ISO R 140) does not give results which are very well in accordance with subjective judgements of impact sound transmission. Both the measuring system (tapping machine) and the assessing system (comparison with standard values) could cause this discrepancy. It can be reasoned that the tapping machine is not the main cause, if one restricts the application to floors with hard surfaces. In this paper it is described how by new standard values the judging system with tapping machine measurements gives results which are in fair agreement with annoyance.
