Binary sex pheromone mixtures in Tortricidae : Role of positional of geometrical isomers [Kombinierte Sexualpheromone bei Tortriciden. Zur Rolle der positionellen and geometrischen Isomeren]

article
The sex pheromones of the moths Adoxophyes orana, Clepsis spectrana and Archips poda-na were found to be mixtures of positional or geometrical isomers. The predominant compound of the pheromone of A. orana is cis-9-tetradecenyl acetate (tda); the minor compound cis-11-tda, whereas for C. spectrana the predominant compound is cis-11-tda and the minor one cis-9-tda. In A. podana cis-11-tda and trans-11-tda were found in about equal amounts. The separate compounds are inactive, and mixtures of them are active only when the components are present in a definite, critical ratio. The geometrical isomers of the constituents of the pheromone of A. orana were found to be potent inhibitors.
