The power of collaborative systems: building a resilient and adaptive society
conference paper
Systems are the backbone of modern societies. Think, for example, of smart cities, where physical infrastructures, digital technologies, and citizens come together to create a more sustainable and prosperous environment. Or, consider the healthcare system, in which medical technologies, lifestyle improvements and patients must work in tandem to enable healthy ageing. The success of such systems largely depends on the degree of alignment between the various elements within these systems, as well as how different systems relate to one another. Increasingly, systems, such as those for water, energy, and mobility, are interconnected and highly interdependent. This makes them vulnerable, but also offers opportunities.
