Leveraging the Belief Desire Intention Framework for modeling the behavior of stakeholders in energy markets
conference paper
The behavior of energy market participants dependson their needs, business strategy, and knowledge about thedynamics of markets and contracts. Considering these factors without decreasing the value of insights for decision-making ischallenging and often neglected in energy system modeling. Inthis paper, we introduce and demonstrate BDEYE: a methodfor creating insights into energy system dynamics for industrydecision-makers using agent-based modeling (ABM) and Agentic Reasoning Capture (ARC) using the Belief Desire IntentionFramework. The demonstrations show that with BDEYE, wecan provide insights into complex energy market dynamics whileensuring the transparency, explainability, and comprehensibilityneeded for decision-making on clean energy technology businessstrategies and policies. Index Terms—Power Purchase agreements; Contracts for Difference; hydrogen market; electricity market; agent-based modeling. ©2025 IEE
