Supporting the Deployment of Rural Connectivity: Collaborative Value Creation and Capture Models as Part of Community-led Business Models
conference paper
Despite the rapid technological developments that have taken place over the last decade in terms of digital connectivity, with concepts such as 6G or edge computing offering vastly more efficient and effective means of communication, we observe that rural communities are struggling to keep up with these developments (Salemink et al., 2017). Consequently, rural communities are unable to participate in the digital economy and lack opportunities for inclusion, development and growth (de Clercq et al., 2023). This is troublesome, as rural areas are home to important economic sectors such as agriculture, mining and forestry (McFarlane et al., 2016) and up to 30% of the European population lives in rural areas (Stojanova et al., 2022).
