A modification of Goldmann's apparatus for the objective determination of the visual acuity

article
A modification of Goldmann's well-known apparatus for the objective determination of visual acuity is described. The essential modification consists of a new construction of the moving test-plate which contains a uniform background and a test object consisting of black dots alternating with illuminated holes. By varying the illumination of the holes it is possible to obtain equality between the average brightness of the background and the test-object in a much easier way than by means of the photographical method used by Goldmann. A calibration-curve is produced in which the distance between patient and test object is plotted as a function of visllal acuity.
