Hemopoietic factors required for differentiation of multipotential cells in vitro

The experiments reviewed· support a two-regulator model for both the erythropoietic and the granulocyte/macrophage pathway of hemopoiesis. For these two pathways the factors operating on multipotential cells appeared to be distinct from each other. Explicit data are not available as yet to determine whether these factors play an instructional role as opposed to a stochastic model of stem cell differentiation [25].
