Dating of the Cretaceous Une Formation, Colombia and the relationship with the Albian-Cenomanian African-South American microfloral province

article
Combined with a reinterpretation of the ammonite data, the palynological analysis of some samples from the Cretaceous Une Formation, Colombia yielded new evidence on the age of the formation, which appears to be Late Aptian-Early(iest) Cenomanian. The assemblages near the top of the formation are characteristic for those described from the Albian-Cenomanian African-South American (ASA) microfloral province. The range and distribution of the representatives of the elater-bearing plexus, a form group which is restricted to the ASA microfloral province, are updated. The limits of the ASA microfloral province were found to lie farther east and the southern boundary to run between Australia and Papua-New Guinea. Nominate species are also described from westernmost China. The age of the elaterates is Middle Albian-Late Cenomanian. © 1990.
