Lipid and protein contents of low density lipoproteins (LDL) from patients with various types of hyperlipoproteinemia

article
Analysis of 17 different sera and a pool serum are presented together with some patient characteristics. Differences in LDL protein content between the individual sera seem relatively small, yet larger than the standard deviation of the procedure. Regardless of the type of hyperlipoproteinemia, females have lower LDL protein contents (average 21%) than males (average 24%). A similar difference for normals can be deduced from the analytical ultracentrifugal patterns reported by Fredrickson (the density maximum for females slightly shifted to lower densities as compared to males).
