A modified permeation device for the preparation of trace gas mixtures
article
A permeation device for the preparation of known and constant trace gas mixtures is described. Construction details of the device are given. The device consists basically of two parts: a tube, preferably made of glass and containing the liquid permeant, attached to a dismountable cap of an inert polymer. Some features are: no contact of the liquid permeant with the permeating area, easy refill of an empty device, transport and storage in a sealed condition. Data are presented, which show that in the usual type of permeation device, contrary to the device described here, the permeation rate may also be a function of the percentage of permeating area, covered by the liquid phase.
