How is percussion done?

article
Percussion is one of the simplest methods of physical examination available to the physician. Formerly, various aids and appliances were used but nowadays indirect auditory percussion (finger-finger method) is the usual method. The sound thus elicited is perceived directly by the ear, and by a comparison of these sounds the physician will get some information about the patient’s general state of health. It is readily understood that these sounds depend greatly on the manner in which this percussion is performed.
