Requirements for model integration and interoperability
conference paper
Many European R&D projects working on Product Data Technology base their work on the STEP methodology. The STEP methodology aims however in the first place at the communication between homogeneous computer applications, a type of problem which plays only a minor role in most of the R&D projects. The projects aim in most cases on the integration of enterprise functions and heterogeneous computer applications. A workshop held on 26-21 August 1993 in Darmstadt, Germany, aimed at the identification of common requirements for product data cofirmunication. In order to describe these requirements in a structured way, a framework for interoperability was developed. This framework makes a distinction between seven levels of communication and three levels of integration.
