A linear motor as seismic horizontal vibrator

conference paper
In this paper we propose to use the concept of linear synchronous motors to act as a seismic shear-wave vibratory source. We show that a linear motor, even with a design that is not focussed on application of seismic surveying, gives seismic records that are convincing and comparable with an established type of horizontal vibrator. Therefore linear motors are very promising as a vibratory source for seismic exploration and monitoring of the subsurface.
