The MANUS wheelchair-borne manipulator system

The MANUS Project was initiated in the Netherlands following a request from the Muscular Dystrophy Associa-tion of the Netherlands "VSN" to the Dutch Organization for Applied Physis 'TNO". After an introductory feasi-bility study, a project was started with a scope extending the potential user group beyond the one of persons with muscular diseases. The objective of the MANUS Project was then defined as the development of a reaso-nabIy priced wheelchair-mounted manipulator with a modular computer-assisted control structure, adaptable to persons with severe disabilities of all four limbs.
