Improvement of melt crystallization's efficiency for industrial applications: final report. Pt.2: annex 1-4
report
Crystal growth can be divided in three regimes: spiral growth, macrosteps and dendritic growth. Dependent on the crystal morphology with which the crystals grow in these regimes (faceted or roughened) an amount of impurity will built in. The morphology will also determine the degree of purification possible. Very pure crystals can be grown (k < 0.01 with very small growth rates) in the spiral growth regime. Very impure crystals (k * 1 with high growth rates) in the roughened growth regime. Different crystal faces can grow with different morphologies and different purity.
