This chapter is part of a book describing the Generic Intelligent Driver Support (GIDSÄDrive V1041) system which is aimed at integrating modern in-vehicle applications. This chapter provides a systematic treatment of guidelines for each of the supporting functions of the GIDS system: planning and navigation, manoeuvring, and control support. Furthermore, the possibility is discussed how feedback information should be given to novice and experienced drivers in order to improve their performance. The GIDS calibrator is discussed which allows drivers to adapt the system to their needs without jeopardizing traffic safety caused by improper settings. The chapter ends with a description of how the various applications should be integrated into a coherent system without interfering with each other.
