ITER UWAVS first mirror plasma cleaning prototype development
other
The Upper Port Visible/Infrared Wide Angle Viewing System (UP Vis/IR or “UWAVS”) provides real-time, simultaneous visible and IR images of the divertor. General Atomics (GA) has been awarded the design of the UWAVS for ITER and has teamed with the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) for the effort. In particular, TNO has been tasked with the development and test of first mirror (FM) cleaning techniques. Due to mirror contamination with C, Be, and W the optical performance deteriorates. ~10 nm contamination causes significant reflectivity degradation. Mo-mirrors are considered as candidates for the FM. To recover optical performance, a FM cleaning system will be implemented. Cleaning with ion fluxes in a gas discharge plasma is considered as a preferred method.
