Towards underwater acoustic communications for swimmer and diver wearables
conference paper
The wearable technology market is expanding rapidly. To advance data communications for swimmer and diver wearables, very-high-frequency (VHF) underwater acoustic channels were characterized and a platform for modulation/transducer development was built. Acoustic channel characterizations and communication experiments were performed between on-body and (nearby) off-body devices while swimming. An analysis of these channel characterizations and initial conclusions on the acoustic communication performance in these rapidly time-varying conditions are presented.
