Applications of the shower test

conference paper
The shower test quantifies the amount of specific preservative components which leach from treated timber under simulated open storage conditions. The test method measures leaching from both creosote and inorganic salt treated timber.
Two charges, spruce and pine, were separately treated with CCA type C, followed by hifix processing (steam fiation). Directly after the hifix processing each charge was shower tested. In the shower test the leaching was expressed as the cumulative amount (mg) of component per m3 spruce or pine. Leached components were also quantified in relation to their retention in the treated product and described by use of a leaching factor.
