An a priori geometry check for a single isoparametric finite element
article
In order to check initial element geometry, the error in the displacement field is a priori bounded. The distorted element displacement field is determined by requiring a least squares difference with respect to a non-distorted (i.e. reference) element solution. The least squares residual qualifies the element's approximation capabilities. An extra check on high aspect ratio is proposed. Several specific examples of geometry checks are included. © 1993.
