The article surveys the present state of affairs for automatic ECG/VCG interpretation. The electrocardiogram represents only onesample from the total information generated by the cardiac muscle, as it presents itself at the surface of the body. A system for automatic ECG processing is presented and the restrictions and advantages of these methods are discussed. Thevalue of the systems for various clinical applications is critically reviewed.
