φ-OTDR for Low-Noise Distributed Seismic Sensing

A low-noise (p-OTDR system employing 2-stage preamplification is employed as a distributed acoustic sensor in a survey well in Cottessen, reaching strain noise levels below 1 ns for a 10 kHz sampling rate.
