Probiotics from an immunological point of view

article
In recent years, two issues have been given special attention in probiotic research: immunomodulation and safety assessment. Studies have demonstrated that orally administered lactobacilli can stimulate the cellular and humoral immune system, resulting in beneficial effects in intestinal infections, tumour inhibition and oral vaccines. More detailed study on the duration of the effects of probiotics, the dose of the microorganisms employed in probiotic treatments, and the effect of probiotics on intestinal permeability remains a priority.
