Identification of main release sources of perovskites in PeroCUBE devices: deliverable 7.2

report
This deliverable presents a tier-1 assessment of the emissions of the substances from perovskite-based devices to different workplace, consumer and environmental compartments (including air, water and soil) over the devices’ entire life cycle. It is the output of T7.2 and includes a Hotspot Scan of the potential sources of human and/or environmental exposures.
Need for the Deliverable. The overall objective of WP7 is to assess the potential human health risks and to provide a life cycle assessment to balance the risks and benefits of the application of perovskites in lighting and energy harvesting applications. These risks mainly arise from the release of hazardous substances during the production, use or disposal of the perovskite-based devices. Following the tier-0 qualitative assessment (D7.1) in which certain ‘red flags’ related to the potential risks and lower benefits (social or economic) were identified along the life cycle of the perovskite-based devices, a tier-1 assessment is now needed to further refine and identify the release hotspots in a quick manner. Such tiered approach allows a pro-active approach towards the elimination of any potential risk at an early stage of product development and thus enables a better product design or gives guidelines for an improved value chain design.
