Life cycle assessment of advanced grade pla product with novel end-of-life treatment through depolymerization
conference paper
The plastics industry is increasingly turning to biobased alternatives like polylactic acid (PLA) to reduce environmental impact, with PLA being a leading renewable plastic. While PLA offers environmental benefits, concerns remain about its end-of-life treatments, such as landfilling and incineration, which can offset its advantages over fossil-based plastics. New chemical recycling technologies, like Arapaha's depolymerization method, are emerging to address recycling challenges and promote a potentially circular approach for high-end PLA products.
